Impact of Air Quality
92% of the world’s population lives in places where the World Health Organization air quality guideline levels are not met. Air quality varies spatially across a city exposing different communities to different levels of air pollution. For this reason, several initiatives are emerging in the U.S., and around the world.
- - Generate an outdoor air quality map in real time and with forecasts to provide the necessary data to governments, property managers and all those who are looking to improve the quality of indoor air in a given space.
- - Provide air quality data that can be reused by several stakeholders.
- - Enable cities with usable data to determine the effects of road traffic, emissions, and other pollutants, for instance when optimizing traffic lights strategy.
- - Analyze the evolution of air quality in public places with sensors in street furniture like billboards and bus shelters, etc.
Sigfox 0G Network was integrated in 25 of eLichens’ eLos Outdoor Air Quality stations. eLichens has collaborated with Daikin, the global no.1 Air Conditioning company, to deploy eLos stations throughout the city of San Francisco. The use of eLos data helps Daikin to fine-tune its HVAC strategy for the buildings which are equipped with certain Daikin products and measure how outdoor air impacts indoor air quality.
The data gathered by eLichens showed the impact of shelter-in-place orders on air quality in San Francisco, resulting in positive changes for local outdoor air quality. NO2 concentrations have decreased by 43% with only a slight increase in O3 levels. A 19% drop in particulate matter concentrations was observed in this same time period.
